Are they all just as good as each other? I wasn't sure where to post this as it's a generic question, and i've posted it in two sections. With the current setup using stock 3mm pads that might be 6w/mk at best, you're probably better off without the backplate.

Copper modding is where small copper shims are used to connect hot chips on the gpu to the heatsink more effectively than the standard thermal pads used by the manufacturer.
